The problem statement

Gayatri Bank aims to tackle the challenges faced by senior citizens, disabled individuals, and those residing in underbanked rural areas.

The primary hurdle lies in the requirement of smartphones or PINs for successful transactions via digital payment models like UPI, mobile wallets, contactless, and QR codes.

Moreover, the bank seeks to address the high costs associated with expanding physical branches, ATMs, issuing cards, and managing the KYC process in remote regions.

These challenges pose significant concerns for the bank's operations and objectives.

Client name and details

Gayatri Bank, established in 2000, is a cooperative urban bank in Jagtial district, Telangana. It has 23 branches and is the 2nd largest cooperative urban bank in Telangana. They deliver economic support and hassle-free digital financial services to the country's underbanked and unbanked population.

Process:

Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS) by NPCI and UIDAI is an essential collaboration as it facilitates universal financial access with Aadhaar and biometric ID.

It promotes cashless transactions and financial inclusion in India. Users can access funds, open accounts, and transfer without documents or smartphones.

Banks reduce costs by using business correspondent agents, like local shopkeepers with a laptop and biometric machines, expanding financial services.

Solution incorporated

Gayatri Bank partnered with us to implement AePS and UIDAI authentication, driving financial inclusion, digital payments, interoperability, customer expansion, and cost reduction.

This enables customers to use Aadhaar and fingerprints for transactions including:

  • Cash deposits
  • Cash withdrawals
  • Intrabank or interbank fund transfers
  • Bank enquiries
  • Mini statement printing

Secure routing of Aadhaar-based interbank transactions and disbursement of government entitlements were also facilitated.

Results

Gayatri Bank achieved significant revenue and transaction boost by onboarding 500+ remote business correspondents through the launch of AePS, without incurring costs of opening physical bank branches or ATMs.
