Manual faculty attendance paved way for discrepancies, the staff manipulated the data and used proxies which required a fool proof solution.

The faculty are paid high salaries as per industry standards and these take up a major chunk of the university’s budget. There was no way of tracking a faculty’s presence. The university had arranged surprise inspections, but the staff were alerted offline by few of the members which again led to manipulation of attendance.

In engineering colleges, faculty duplication was being observed evidently. One lecturer appearing as the faculty member of various colleges, which is against the set rules by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Faculty attendance and student attendance goes hand in hand. Procurement of attendance in wrong ways was considered possible generally by all faculty members.

Nestled in a sprawling 89-acre campus at Kukatpally, Hyderabad, JNTUH now boasts of 4 Constituent Engineering Colleges, at Hyderabad, Kondagattu (Jagithyal), Manthani and Sultanpur (Medak dist.) . Other institutions that are present in the locality include:

Process:

• M2P installed devices in all staff rooms at colleges. The university supported us in collecting the faculty’s Aadhaar numbers which were all supported with demographic details of everyone such as their name, DOB, and gender, among other details.
• An in-depth Aadhaar Demographic Service was organized to match the authenticity, and during this step, a few discrepancies were found, which showcased that some of the faculty members provided fake Aadhaar numbers to the management.
• Following these steps, when faculty member uses their fingerprint on the sensor, their Aadhaar-based details were generated in real-time.
• Additionally, we provided GPS-enabled devices to track student and faculty attendance effectively.
• When a student/teacher/ faculty puts their fingerprint on the sensor, his/her Aadhaar details are generated in real-time.

Solution incorporated

The Government appointed us to introduce a comprehensive solution, and we launched the Aadhaar-based Biometric Attendance System (ABAS). This Aadhaar-based solution helped identify fake attendance entries and, in turn, improved cost efficiency and overall credibility for the brand by scrutinizing the attendance on actuals.

Results

• Elimination of bogus expenditure on non-existent workers and significant savings and cost efficiency for the university.
• With the faculty’s PAN and Aadhaar linked, a reliable attendance monitoring system was laid for the university.

Highlights/stats

Every college affiliated with JNTUH today follows the Aadhaar service to record attendance.

Around 2 lakh students have enrolled with the university, they need a 75% attendance to be able to appear for exams later, which poses a challenge for the university, however, with the most comprehensive attendance system and the noble intention to ensure quality education, this new challenge will be taken up with full force by M2P!
